Switzerland - Lucerne & Mount Pilatus

Lucerne
Matt and I had such an amazing time in Lucerne and on Mount Pilatus in Switzerland!  We only stayed 2 nights (August 16 & 17) as the cost of EVERYTHING was beyond ridiculous.  Going into Switzerland, I knew it would be expensive, but I was not prepared for the numbers I saw on the price tags.  If you think Paris (or France in general) is expensive, just wait until you step foot in Switzerland.  The cost of everything is about 3 to 4x as much as you would pay in Canada. For example, a pound of apples at home might be $3 per kg ($1.29/lb) which equates to CHF 2.50.  Well, the cost of apples in Switzerland was not CHF 2.50. Try CHF 6.50 which is almost $8 at home for a kilo of apples.  Somebody please pick my jaw off the floor because I am suffering from sticker shock!

Anyways, that was the only negative about Switzerland. The rest is filled with positivity!!!

Lucerne is a beautiful city. The buildings are rather quaint, beautiful Lake Lucerne runs through the middle of the city and the mountains provide the perfect backdrop.    It was so beautiful to sit back and watch the swans swim gracefully in the lake.

Here are a few pictures from Lucerne:

Mount Pilatus
Matt and I spent a full day up at Mount Pilatus (7000 ft) taking in the breath taking scenery and admiring the picturesque Alps. To get up to Mount Pilatus, we took a bus and then a gondola. Once we nearly reached the top, we spent several hours hiking & walking around – to the summit and on several different trails.

 Ahhh....don't fall!

We then took the world’s steepest cogwheel train down the mountain and finished off our day with a 90 minute boat ride along Lake Lucerne.  What an awesome day!  I loved Switzerland and can clearly understand why Shania Twain lives in this amazing & beautiful country.
